About
YENGA is an avant-pop/indie band from Bochum and Amsterdam, drawing inspiration from ambient and psychedelic music. Their music blends fragmented pop structures with energetic improvisations and multilayered textures. The lyrics and melodies of singer Stella Polaris form the poetic core of their music. The band performs live with additional musicians and different scenic designs. Besides their releases, the band writes and performs music for theatre and installations.
The band has been active since 2015, primarily performing in Germany but also in the Netherlands. In May 2024, the band released their studio album titled I Think This Escalator Is Working Against Me. For the album release concert, the musicians collaborated closely with the light-art duo scheinzeitmenschen. Together, they fused a light sculpture with a live performance, which premiered on May 18, 2024, at the Oval Office in Schauspielhaus Bochum.
